Moving Image planning document

What emotional impact do you want your filming do have upon the reader? How?

The emotional impact I want the reader to feel is quite happy and make them want to dance. I will make them feel like this by having the scene of the party as it will make the audience want to be there. I will also do this by certain shots and cuts to make the video fast paced.
What personnel do you need? Who are you going to film?
The people I need are three males to play the role of band members. I have the people who are going to be in my music video as they are already in a band. I will also need lots of people to be partying as the part of the music video where the band is not playing t is going to be set at a party.
What props will you need?
I will need a microphone, guitar and drums. I will also need cups and glasses for the party to make it seem more realistic.
How are you going to emphasise colour?
The colour in my music video will be quite dark as it will be at a party. The lighting will be more high key on the three band members when they are at the party.
Have you briefed your personnel/models?
I have briefed the band who are being filmed in the music video, I haven't told the other people who are at the party but i will brief them when we are all at the location.
What lighting will you need? Any other equipment?
For lighting there is natural lighting and the lighting from the lights that are already in the room and there is no need for any more lighting. For lighting in the party scene there will be low key lighting. I will need a camera and a tripod so that the camera is steady for the shots of the band playing.
Where will you shoot? Will you need a backdrop?
I will shoot my music video in one of the peoples bedroom, its a fairly big size and has a plain background. I might have to have something in the background like a flag or posters as it looks too plain. For the party scene i will shoot in The Big Club, as there is already a party happening so i shall film it so its realistic.
Make-up? Costume?
For costume i have told the band members to wear something that they normally wear when they are playing a gig. They are going to wear skinny jeans and just plain t-shirt. They wont need any make up. For the people at the party they are just going to wear clothing that they would normally wear t parties, like dresses and nice clothes. For make up they will need to look made up for a party.

What is a music video?

A music video is a short video which combines imagery and a song which will be produced for promotional purposes. Music videos now are used as a marketing device which will promote the sales of the song. Music videos use a wide range of film making techniques, these include documentaries, live action filming, animation and non-narrative approaches such as abstract film. Music videos have been made since 1894. The Beatles in their first film ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ had musical sequences which have furnished basic templates for future music videos. Top of the Pops played music videos on their show which increased songs sales, so therefore the artists needed a good video to increase sales as viewers hope to see it the next week. MTV launched a channel which played music 24 hours a day and having this new outlet for material the music video played a central role in marketing popular music. In 1983 the most iconic music video was released which was 14 minutes long video for Michael Jacksons song Thriller, it set new standards for music videos as it cost $500,000. MTV later launched the VMA’s (MTV Video Music Awards) which would underscore their importance in the music industry. YouTube was launched in 2005 which made the viewing of videos more accessible and this made the artists see that online successes as artists like Soulja Boy have had successes from just the internet.

Brief

Out of the 8 briefs to do for my A2 coursework I have chosen this one:
A promotion package for the release of an album, to include a music promo video together with two of the following three options:
·         A website homepage for the band
·         A cover for its release as part of a digipak (CD/DVD package)
·         A magazine advertisement for the digipak (CD/DVD package)

I have chosen to do this brief other than the other briefs as it interests me the most out of all the briefs and I think by doing this brief id be able to best show of my media talents. I’m interested in music too so I believe this will help my final product.

I have chose to do a cover for it’s release as part of a digipak and a magazine advertisement as I think these would be the most interesting as I have no interest in creating websites and I don’t think id be able to make it as well as I could make the other two.
